So, you’ve booked a stay at Jungle House (excellent choice), and now you’re ready to explore the neighborhood. If you’re here for a weekend getaway or a longer city break, Columbus, Ohio has plenty to offer, and some of the best spots are just around the corner.
Most of our homes sit right in the Short North, one of the most walkable and well-loved areas of the city. You’re steps away from amazing coffee, vintage stores you’ll want to get lost in, and some of the most creative food and drink in town. This guide is our personal list of favorite local finds, places we actually go to, recommend to guests, and keep going back to ourselves.
If you’re looking for the best places to visit in Columbus, Ohio, start here.
Coffee Shops That Get It Right
We take our coffee seriously, mostly because the plants need tending, the beds are too comfortable, and caffeine helps. Fortunately, the Short North has a strong coffee game.
Stauf’s Coffee Roasters
A neighborhood staple since 1988, Stauf’s serves up small-batch roasts with big personality, which is perfect for a quiet cup or catching up with a friend. The cozy vibe, friendly crew, and deep selection of single-origin beans make it worth the walk.
One Line Coffee
Ethically sourced and roasted on-site, One Line Coffee is the kind of spot where you can geek out over single-origin beans or just grab a solid latte and people-watch. It’s calm, consistent, and just a short walk from the house.
Fox in the Snow Café
Fox in the Snow Café is a short drive from the Short North, but absolutely worth it. Giant pastries, beautifully brewed coffee, and the kind of natural light that makes everything feel easier. It’s a local favorite for good reason.
Roaming Goat Coffee
Situated in the nearby Italian Village, Roaming Goat Coffee is low-key and cozy. Smooth espresso, friendly baristas, and the kind of playlist that makes you linger longer than you planned.
Brunch You’ll Want to Plan Around
Columbus does brunch well, there’s comfort food, local flavor, and just enough twist to keep things interesting.
Katalina’s
Funky, friendly, and full of flavor. Katalina’s is best known for pancake balls (yes, that’s a thing), but everything here, from the breakfast tacos to the sweet-and-savory combos, feels homemade and well-loved.
Skillet
If you like your brunch seasonal, local, and made from scratch, Skillet hits the mark. The menu changes often and includes everything from bourbon peaches to farm eggs with house-made sausage. Cozy space, big flavors.
Lola & Giuseppe’s Trattoria
Not exactly brunch, but if you’re wandering and hungry later in the day, Lola & Giuseppe’s Trattoria is worth a detour. It’s family-run, intimate, and full of old-school comfort.
Cocktail Lounges and Low-Key Nightlife
Once the sun goes down, Columbus keeps going. These spots are great for a casual drink, a date night, or just winding down without going too far from home.
Mouton
A Short North classic. Mouton is unfussy and has thoughtful cocktails, a small wine list that hits the right notes, and bartenders who know what they’re doing. It’s the kind of place you can sit for a while.
Lincoln Social Rooftop
Lincoln Social Rooftop is polished and buzzy, with skyline views and modern cocktails. Come early if you want a seat, this one’s popular, but it’s a fun place to take in the city from above.
Barley’s Underground
Barley’s Underground is hidden in the basement of a brewpub. This bar is casual, weirdly charming, and full of locals. Great beer list, soft lighting, and the occasional trivia night. No frills, just a good time.
Vintage & Small Shops Worth Wandering Through
This part of Columbus is packed with small, independently owned shops that carry everything from mid-century furniture to hand-thrown ceramics. It’s very possible to come home with more than you packed.
Flower Child
Flower Child is a kaleidoscope of vintage finds. Clothes, furniture, and accessories, you’ll see something from every decade. A little chaotic, but that’s part of the fun.
Smartypants Vintage
Smartypants Vintage is smaller and more curated, with great finds from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Think leather jackets, concert tees, and vintage denim that doesn’t try too hard.
The Brass Hand
The Brass Hand is not technically vintage, but a beautifully curated shop full of handmade goods, plants, gifts, and cozy homewares. It feels like a store designed for Jungle House guests, so naturally, we love it.
